Sweet Potato Swirl Skillet Bread




  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 stick butter or 1/2 cup or 8 tablespoons melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup cooked mashed sweet potatoes
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla paste

Swirl for Batter:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Tastic sweet*
  • 1 cup chopped nuts pecans or walnuts (optional)

Glaze for Cooked Bread

  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk more or less
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract


1. Whisk together flour and baking soda in a bowl and set aside.

2. Combine melted butter, brown sugar, sour cream, eggs, mashed sweet potatoes and vanilla extract in a large bowl mixing with a spoon. Add flour mixture to sweet potato mixture and stir with spoon to combine.

3. Prepare a cast iron skillet or spray a 9 x 5 bread pan with cooking spray and add mixture to pan. Add swirl.

Swirl Instructions

4. Whisk ingredients together and spread over sweet potato mixture in pan.

5. Take a knife and swirl mixture into the batter. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven 55 to 60 minutes checking until done as ovens vary. Remove from oven and let cool completely. 

6. Drizzle that thang and get a slice.

Glaze Instructions

  • Whisk together and drizzle over cooled bread.
